GAFFER Privacy Policy

Last updated 31 August 2026

GAFFER is a football arcade game. This page explains what the game does with data, in plain terms. The short version: your scores stay on your device, there are no accounts, Google supplies advertising in the mobile app, and our server only handles temporary private-room matches.

No account, no sign-in

GAFFER has no login. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number or date of birth, and we hold no profile about you.

What stays on your device

High scores, your rivalry record between players, and your difficulty setting are stored on the device itself, using the browser or app's own local storage. They are not uploaded anywhere and we cannot see them. Deleting the app removes them.

Advertising

The mobile app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To do that, Google's advertising software may collect and process an IP address (which can estimate coarse location), device identifiers, advertising data, interactions with the app and its ads, and diagnostic information such as crash and performance data. This is used to deliver and measure advertising, analyse performance, prevent fraud, and improve the advertising service.

This applies to the iOS and Android apps only. The website at gaffer.footyzone.app shows no ads and includes no advertising software.

Google's own explanation of how it uses this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

When regional privacy rules require it, GAFFER displays Google's consent message before requesting ads. You can accept or manage the purposes and ad partners shown in that message. If consent cannot be established, GAFFER does not request an ad during that launch.

On iOS, GAFFER also asks for permission before allowing cross-app tracking or access to the advertising identifier. Declining does not prevent you from playing; Google can still serve ads using methods that do not require that permission. You can change tracking permission later in iOS Settings.

Playing against a friend online

When you open or join a private room, the game connects to our server at api.footyzone.app so the two devices can pass moves to each other. That connection carries the six-character room code, the display name you typed if you typed one, and the moves you make in the match.

The server keeps a room only while the match is being played, entirely in memory. Nothing is written to disk, and a room disappears when the match ends, when a player leaves, or after a period of inactivity. We do not log the content of matches.

Children

GAFFER is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will look into it.
